The Epstein-Barr virus, also known as h uman herpesvirus 4, is among the nine recognized human herpes viruses in the human herpes family . It is one of the most frequent viruses in the human population , b ecause it is a highly contagious virus, it spreads easily between groups of people. It is not clear exactly what the viral characteristics of this virus are; however, it is thought to be able to enter the bloodstream through a person's open cuts or breaks in the skin.
